Steampunk Strandbeest: Safety Valve (Bonus Video)
In the previous video, I made a boiler for a steam engine but received a lot of concerns regarding the boiler potentially exploding. In this video, I address these concerns and fix the problem by making an adjustable safety valve.
This is a short side project in the Steampunk Strandbeest series to ensure that everything remains safe.

Steampunk Strandbeest: Making a Boiler from a Moka pot (Pt2)

In this video series I will attempt to make a real Steampunk Strandbeest (a SteamBeast) by mounting a small steam engine on a strandbeest. The engine needs to be run on steam and for this I need a boiler. This video is how I made them using Moka Pots found in a thrift store. I am also listing to the advice from the internet and will make a pressure release valve to be mounted directly on the po...

    Watching with interest. Will the Strandbeest be able to cary the weight of boiler and steam engine?

    • @Induku
      @Induku 24 дні тому

      I think it should, there are enough legs so the weight will not be a problem. I am going to add quite a few gears to reduce the speed and increase the power - so it might be a bit slow, but I do not want it to run around carrying fire and steam...

    My mum bought me a marble/ball-bearing run for my birthday ~ it was mechanical model - construction kit of those thin plywood sheets that you push the parts out of the frames and assemble it ~ from ROKR. enjoyed doing that, and interesting to see you are also using the pre-cut-out plywood for your creation. You should do a smaller version of that for a hamster ~ they spend a lot of time running in their wheel as “apparently” need a lot of exercise, same thing with mice & gerbils. It would have to be electronically measured but you could put a motor on its edge as a generator and have it power itself 🤗. Odd to see you used a cat as a subject

      I do not have any formal education for making these kinds of things - I mostly learned this from watching youtube videos. Start small and make something simple and and soon you will improve your skill to make more and more complex things. Each part here is really a simple bit but looks very complex when all put together. If something does not work do not give up, geared systems not working this first time is normal, just try again. If you really want to do it go for it!!!

      @Induku 2 місяці тому

      When I tightened the wheels the wheel housing with the bearing pushed out a bit (I tightened it a bit too much). This bit of skewness made something catch, but I am not completely sure what. But when I looked I saw the housing was not straight and saw why and adjusted it to be in line and everything worked. In the new video a new sound can be heard just after I installed the speedometer - this is because the the housing was millimeters too tall because I measured wrong. The fix here was sanding the housing a bit which solved the problem.

    So the spring counter reacts to the acceleration proportionally like dampened proof mass?

    • @Induku
      @Induku 2 місяці тому

      I am not sure it is exactly proportional. It seems like it when once the ball governor has spun up past a certain amount but I at high speed I think the spring resists more - it could also only be that it is compressed too much and there is not enough physical space. But I do not really know.

    • @evancrane3015
